08 - Cookies and tracking

This cookie information describes how and for what purpose we collect, process and use personal and other data when using our websites — in particular in connection with cookies and similar technologies.
What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are files that your browser automatically stores on your device when you visit our websites. Cookies contain a unique identification number (an ID) that allows us to distinguish individual visitors from others, but usually without identifying them. Depending on the purpose of use, cookies contain further information, e.g. about pages viewed and the duration of the visit to a page. On the one hand, we use session cookies, which are deleted when the browser is closed, and on the other hand, persistent cookies, which remain stored for a certain period of time after the browser is closed (usually between a few days and two years) and are used to recognize visitors on a subsequent visit.
We may also use similar technologies, such as pixel tags, fingerprints, and other technologies to store data in the browser. Pixel tags describe small, usually invisible images or program code that are loaded from a server and thus transmit certain information to the server operator, e.g. whether and when a website was visited. Fingerprints are information that are collected when you visit a website via the configuration of your device or browser and that make your device distinguishable from other devices. Most browsers also support other technologies for storing data in the browser, similar to cookies, which we can also use (e.g. “web storage”).
How can cookies and similar technologies be deactivated?
In some cases, when you visit our websites, you have the option of activating or deactivating certain categories of cookies via a button displayed in the browser. You can also configure your browser in the settings so that it blocks certain cookies or similar technologies or deletes existing cookies and other data stored in the browser. You can also extend your browser with software (so-called “plug-ins”) that blocks tracking by certain third parties. You can find out more about this in your browser's help pages (usually under the keyword “data protection”). Please note that if you block cookies and similar technologies, our websites may no longer function fully.
Necessary cookies: Necessary cookies are required so that a website and its functions can be used. For example, these cookies ensure that you can switch between pages without losing the information entered in a form or the products placed in a shopping cart.
Performance cookies: Performance cookies collect information about how a website is used and enable us to carry out analyses, such as which pages are most popular and how visitors move around a website. These cookies are used to simplify and speed up visits to the website and to improve usability in general.
Functional cookies: Functional cookies enable us to provide advanced functionalities and display personalized content. These cookies allow us, for example, to save information that you have already provided (e.g. language selection) or to show you products that you might also like based on viewed articles.
Marketing cookies: Marketing cookies help us and our advertising partners to target you on our websites and on third-party websites with advertising for products or services that may be of interest to you, or to display our advertisements after you visit our websites as you continue to use the Internet.

Webflow

We use Webflow, a website builder system, for our website. The service provider is the American company Webflow, Inc. 398 11th St., Floor 2, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA.Webflow processes data from you in the USA, among others. We would like to point out that, in the opinion of the European Court of Justice, there is currently no adequate level of protection for data transfer to the USA. This may involve various risks to the lawfulness and security of data processing.
As a basis for data processing by recipients based in third countries (outside the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, i.e. in particular in the USA) or for data transfer there, Webflow uses so-called standard contractual clauses (= Article 46, paragraphs 2 and 3 GDPR). Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) are sample templates provided by the EU Commission and are intended to ensure that your data complies with European data protection standards even if they are transferred to third countries (such as the USA) and stored there. Through these clauses, Webflow undertakes to comply with European data protection standards when processing your relevant data, even if the data is stored, processed and managed in the USA. These clauses are based on an implementing decision by the EU Commission. You can find the resolution and the corresponding standard contractual clauses here, among others: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dec_impl/2021/914/oj?2locale=de
For more information about the standard contractual clauses and the data that is processed through the use of Webflow, please see the Privacy Policy at https:/webflow.com/legal/privacy.

Google Analytics

Two of the most important third-party providers are Google and Facebook. You can find further information about these below. Other third parties usually process personal and other data in a similar way.
We use Google Analytics, an analysis service from Google. Google uses cookies and similar technologies to collect certain information about the behavior of individual users on or in the relevant website and the device used (tablet, PC, smartphone, etc.) (e.g. how often you have opened our website, how many purchases have been made or what interests you have, as well as data about the device you use, such as the operating system). You can find further information about this under this link.
We have configured the service so that the IP addresses of visitors to Google's websites within Europe are abbreviated before being redirected to the USA so that they cannot be traced back. Google provides us with reports and can therefore be regarded as our order processor. However, Google also processes certain data for its own purposes. Google may be able to draw conclusions about the identity of visitors to the websites based on the collected data and therefore create personal profiles and link the data obtained to any existing Google accounts of these people. Information about Google Analytics' privacy policy can be found here:
https://www.blog.google/topics/google-europe/gdpr-europe-data-protection-rules/

Google Maps

This website uses the services of Google Maps. This enables us to display interactive maps directly on the website and allows you to conveniently use the map function. If you are logged in to Google, your data is directly associated with your account. If you do not want to be associated with your profile on Google, you must log out before activating the button. Google stores your data as user profiles and uses them for advertising, market research and/or demand-oriented design of its website. Such an evaluation is carried out in particular (even for users who are not logged in) to provide appropriate advertising and to inform other users of the social network about your activities on our website. You have the right to object to the creation of these user profiles, and you must contact Google to exercise this right. For more information on the purpose and scope of data collection and processing by Google, as well as further information about your rights in this regard and settings options to protect your privacy, please visit: https://www.google.de/intl/de/policies/privacy.
